Blog Post #7 - Compare and Contrast: Two Places

My Old and New Hometowns

     I moved to the house from Suwon to Cheonan about eight months ago.  Both cities have each charateristic.  Even I had lived in Suwon for over twenty years, I do not feel unfamiliar to Cheonan.  Both are very different.  There are several things to compare two cities.
     The streets scenes are distinctions between Suwon and Cheonan.  For example, if you visit Suwon, you can easily see the modern style buldings or streets, not ruralism streets.  However, Cheoan is composed of new types and old types of houses.  To find out that kind of streets is not difficult at all.  Suwon has been developed so much enough already.  On the other hand, Cheonan is getting modernization more and more.  Although people call both areas a city, I can find out how people are different.  From my experience, people who live in Suwon do not usually say "hello" to strangers, even if they meet other people in the elevators in their apartments. While people who live in Cheonan normally say "hello" to their neighbors with their smiling.  When I get on the elevator, always I can hear "hello" so that I became a person say "hello" to my neighbors.  The last different part of both cities is the public transportation system.  Suwon has many routes of buses the reason why is that Suwon is located very good positon.  It is easy to get Seoul or any other cities which are called capital areas.  Even at midnight, people can take a bus.  When I lived in Suwon, I was able to stay in Gangnam until twelve midnight.  There is a bus to my old hometown until twelve thirty.  But now, I cannot even playing in my new town.  The time for the last bus is around ten o'clock.  For me, it is a kind of tragic situations.  In addition, Suwon citizens can get the transfer discount by using a bus or a subway.  In contrast, Cheonan city does not offer the discount system for the citizens.  As a result, I pay for the public transportation's fees much more than before.  Despite this terrible system, a group of Cheonan people feel happy.  They are the taxi drivers.  Oneday, a driver told me his income is higher than the other divers who work in Suwon.  We are citizens in the same city, one hates the system and another loves that system.  It is funny.
     In conclusion, those cities have distinctive features make me always warm.  Suwon is very familiar to me, and the atmosphere of Cheonan causes warm feeling to me.  I just found out some tiny little problems of both cities.  And just want to mixed the good points between the two cities.
